HOPE Squads
- Hope Squad is a school based peer-to-peer suicide prevention program existing in each of the high schools in Preble County. HOPE Squads were developed during the 2019-2020 school year.
- Three middle school HOPE Squads were added in 2022-2023. National Trail, Preble Shawnee, and Tri-County North Schools all have developed middle school Hope Squads to help their peers.
- Hope Squad members are nominated by their peers as trustworthy classmates that are empathetic and approachable. These members are the link between students who may be struggling and the adults that can help.
- Hope Squad advisors provide ongoing training, support, and monitoring of Hope Squad members. Training components include topics such as how to respond to a peer who may be suicidal, how to communicate with someone who may be in a crisis, setting personal boundaries, and taking care of yourself.
- HOPE Squads also work to increase the positive culture of the school by spreading messages of hope and care.
