SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

Approximately 1 in 10 children suffer from mental illness with some level of impairment. 1 in 5 has a diagnosable mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder. Many of these students will not achieve academic success due to social, emotional, and behavioral problems effecting school performance.
The School-Based Mental Health Program was established in 2007 and is designed to offer student mental health services within the school setting. The overall goal of the program is to address and reduce the non-academic barriers interfering with the student's learning. The school mental health therapist is part of the educational team helping to improve attendance, coping with crisis situations, developing self-discipline, building self-esteem, enhancing problem solving, and increasing overall school success in students.
